Polar Data Forum is a place where polar data holders get together and make more use of data. The Forum has two main components: the Conference, where the border between funding, policy and data is explored through presentations and posters; and Workshop Sessions & Hackathons, where the Polar Data Community opens the dialogue to make progress on their shared objectives.

The Polar Data Forum’s logo reflects the connection between data and all aspects of polar research. The logo depicts the Arctic and Antarctic as well as terrestrial and marine environments, all of which are bisected by a human hand comprised of bits of data. The logo was created by the Research Data, Collections, and Digital Services Team at the University of Calgary’s Arctic Institute of North America (AINA) in Calgary, Alberta. The logo design was led by artist and former AINA analyst Alexandra Tremblay (more information and other works can be found on her art website) and with assistance from team members Jacob Huffman, Kara Matthews, Munish Madan, and Shannon McAllister.

The Polar Data Forum logo: it is a circle that consists of a human hand (comprised of bits of data) bisecting two scenes: one of the Arctic and one of the Antarctic. The Arctic scene includes a muskox and snowflakes in a snowy environment, while the Antarctic scene displays an iceberg and several ice floes with a penguin on one floe and a seal in the water below it.
